History
Founded in 1938 as a local litigation firm, Lindsay, Hart, Neil + Weigler evolved in the 1970s and 1980s into a full-service regional firm that has a legacy of attracting an exceptional array of legal talent.
Two justices of Oregon’s present seven-member Supreme Court are former partners, Jack Landau and Thomas A. Balmer, who was elected the Court’s Chief Justice in 2012. Four Lindsay Hart alumni serve or have served on the Oregon Court of Appeals; and another three of the firm’s lawyers went on to be chosen Portland trial judges on the Multnomah County Circuit Court bench.
The firm has produced five presidents of the Oregon State Bar and two winners of the E.B. McNaughton Award for distinguished service; as well as the 2007 winner of the prestigious MBA Professionalism Award.
Former firm attorneys include members of the United States Congress, Oregon Senate, the Oregon House of Representatives, as well as professors at various law schools.
From its earliest years, the firm earned a reputation for tackling difficult legal issues that have significantly impacted local and national communities. From joining the civil rights legal teams in the South in the 1960s, fighting for adoption rights in the 1990s, volunteering in the community, to winning awards for environmental sustainability, our lawyers have demonstrated time and again a commitment to making a positive impact on our community and our world.
Today, Lindsay, Hart, Neil + Weigler continues to attract talented lawyers who are committed to the legal community and who strive to provide clients with efficient and thoughtful representation.
