James McCurdy

Partner

James practices general civil litigation in Oregon and Washington, specializing in maritime law, professional liability defense and plaintiff/personal injury cases. With expertise in maritime law, James works with tug and barge companies, fish boat operators and other companies doing business on the Columbia and Willamette rivers. He also serves on the board of the Maritime Commerce Club.

In his professional liability work, James has achieved positive results through his vigorous advocacy for attorneys in malpractice suits. He has also successfully helped clients in plaintiff/personal injury and motor vehicle injury cases.

After earning his undergraduate degree, James traveled to India to work in Calcutta. He then taught kindergarten in Los Angeles before earning his law degree from the University of Oregon, where he was a member of the law review and a Wayne Morse Fellow. After law school, he was a clerk at the Oregon Court of Appeals for the Honorable Virginia L. Linder. He is a member of the Oregon State Bar, the Washington State Bar and is admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court for the District of Oregon and the Ninth Circuit.

When it comes to maritime work, we’re one of the few firms that do what we do. It’s one of the industries Portland was founded upon, and I like that relationship to our history.
