James has tried over a hundred civil jury trials in his career. He represents local, regional and national clients in products liability defense, complex commercial litigation and professional liability defense. His career began as a deputy prosecutor in Multnomah County and he also practiced for a number of years as a partner with Shook Hardy in San Francisco. In addition to his active law practice, for seven years James was an instructor in Health Care Law and Ethics at the City University. He is a member of the Oregon State Bar and the California Bar.
