Jay Beattie is a product liability and insurance litigation lawyer who also specializes in employment-related litigation and civil appeals. He has over 25 years of experience representing clients in federal and state trial courts and administrative forums. Jay has also handled numerous appeals in the Oregon, Washington and federal courts of appeals.
Jay’s clients include the Port of Portland, Chartis Private Client Group, Red Shield Insurance, Farmer’s Insurance, Trek Bicycle Corporation, Specialized Bicycle Components and Medmarc Insurance.
Jay’s notable cases include successfully defending Domino’s Pizza in a personal injury action that resulted in the definitive Oregon Court of Appeals opinion regarding a franchisor’s liability for the torts of a franchisee. Jay also defended Dowman Products in an asbestos products liability action that resulted in a favorable Oregon Court of Appeals opinion regarding the liability of a manufacturer for wrongful death.
Since joining Lindsay Hart in 1987, Jay has written and lectured extensively on subjects including motion practice in Oregon, insurance law, products liability and punitive damages. Jay’s expertise once earned him chairmanship of the Products Liability Section of the Oregon State Bar, and he is past member of the Oregon State Bar Uniform Civil Jury Instruction Committee. He is currently the chairman of the Insurance Coverage Practice Group for the Oregon Association of Defense Counsel.
Jay is admitted to practice in all Oregon and Washington courts, the U.S. District Court for the District of Oregon, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and the U.S. Supreme Court. Jay received his law degree magna cum laude from Northwestern School of Law at Lewis and Clark College. He received a B.A. in English with Distinction in 1979 and a Secondary Teaching Credential from San Jose State University in 1980.
Through his professional achievements Jay was selected to appear on the Oregon Super Lawyers list every year from 2011 through 2015.
