Heidi Guettler has over 17 years of experience representing clients in federal and state trial courts, as well as administrative forums, regarding general employment law and other employee related issues. Ms. Guettler regularly advises employers on a variety of issues including employee discipline and termination, employment discrimination, state and federal leave laws, disability accommodation, wage and hour compliance, employment policies and practices, and non-compete agreements.
In dealing with her clients, Ms. Guettler emphasizes the importance of preventive counseling to minimize the risk of costly litigation. In addition to counseling clients, Ms. Guettler litigates single plaintiff and class action cases in state and federal court, and appears before administrative agencies such as the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the Department of Labor and Industries. Ms. Guettler also conducts training seminars for employers on a myriad of topics all related to employment issues and frequently speaks to various associations and organizations on employment law issues.
Some of the highlights of Ms. Guettler’s career include being the lead associate in the U.S Supreme Court case, Albertsons v. Kirkingburg, an ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) case, which resulted in a unanimous decision on behalf of the employer. Furthermore, she recently successfully won a six-plaintiff case at summary judgment and at the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. In addition, she was appointed as Special Assistant Attorney General on behalf of the Oregon Department of Justice for two employment cases in 2011-2012.
After law school, Ms. Guettler served as a judicial clerk for the Honorable Edward N. Fadeley, Oregon Supreme Court.
