Introducing Sarah Tuthill

Our new associate attorney!
Sarah Tuthill joins Lindsay Hart as the firm’s newest associate attorney. She specializes in domestic relations, professional malpractice, and general liability defense. To help introduce her, we asked Sarah a few questions:
Why did you want to become a lawyer?
As strange as it sounds, I always knew I wanted to be a lawyer. My dad has his own practice and it was wonderful to be raised in a family surrounded by law. Growing up, my dad would always ask me and my sister, “Girls, what are the two sweetest words in the English language?” We would respond, “Not guilty!” He’d yell “Alright!” then high five us and do a nerdy dance. It is one thing to be successful in a career and another to truly have passion for that career. It was incredible to be raised by someone who had both. My father’s passion for the law quickly became my own.
In 5th grade I participated in a mock trial. I was the defense attorney and we returned a finding of not guilty. From that moment on, I was hooked. While in law school I had the pleasure of putting on a mock trial for 5th graders. We had a great time and I hope to be involved with events like this in the future.
What did you do before law school?
During college, I spent a semester at American University and interned for former Congresswoman Darlene Hooley. I came back to Oregon after the semester ended but knew I wasn’t done with D.C. After graduating from University of Oregon, I bought a one way ticket to D.C. Within ten days I had a job and apartment. I spent the next year working for a wonderful company, General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA) and applying to law schools. I received an offer from Gonzaga School of Law that I couldn’t refuse and happily returned to the Northwest.
What is your favorite thing about living in Oregon?
I am a fairly traditional Northwesterner. I like to be outside, whether I’m hiking, camping, or skiing. Going to the Saturday farmer’s market and running along the waterfront are my favorite things to do in the city during the summer.
What were you doing professionally before joining Lindsay Hart?
After graduating law school, my plan was to get as much trial experience as possible through criminal law and gradually move into civil litigation. After I took the bar exam, I started working for my father. Through appearances in court in Tillamook County, I got my first job with a firm in Seaside, OR which had a public defense contract with Tillamook County. Since I am from Tillamook, this job was a fantastic opportunity to give back to the community that gave so much to me. I had my first trial on my second day of work and hit the ground running; it was the perfect way to start my career. Having my father available as a resource and professional mentor was a huge advantage as a new lawyer, and I learned a tremendous amount in that first year.
I was offered a position at Hillsboro Law Group. My practice focused on criminal law defense and family practice law. During my time at Hillsboro Law Group, I tried several cases and continued to build my family law practice. I also realized a passion for civil litigation and began a search for a firm to expand my civil litigation practice beyond family law. I found the perfect fit at Lindsay Hart. I am excited and looking forward to what the future holds.
We congratulate Sarah and welcome her to the firm!
