John Mercer has extensive trial practice experience handling civil litigation in federal and state courts in Oregon and Washington, including appeals. He represents individuals, self-insured entities and insurance companies involved in tort litigation and parties involved in business disputes; defends all types of personal injury cases, including automobile and motor carrier accident cases, premises liability claims, and products liability actions. He has vast experience in admiralty personal injury defense, cargo, pollution and environmental, and collision and grounding casualty matters.
John was born in Vancouver, Washington and moved to Portland as a young man. In 1974 he was admitted to practice law in Oregon starting as an associate and then partner of Landis Bailey & Mercer. In 1986 Landis Bailey & Mercer joined the law firm Wood Tatum. As of 2014 John is of counsel to Lindsay Hart.
John is an avid long distance runner having participated in over 25 marathon and ultra-marathon races. He enjoys river rafting, cycling, downhill and cross country skiing.
